cmv and ebv

Hi Doctors,
I am 21 years old and married, my husband and I are planning soon to try for a baby and I went to the doctors just to make sure that everything was fine and was tested for Hiv, chlamadiya and other std and everything was fine, know my big concern  is cmv and ebv. I want to know should I be tested for this? if I have any of these viruses will I transmit it to my baby? I have been loosing sleep over this and I don't even know why I am so concerned. If these viruses are so common, are they always transmitted to their baby, or is cmv only a concern when a pregnant women gets it for the first time during pregnancy? should I be so concerned about these viruses?

There are many retroviruses -- HIV is just the most well known.  This is not something to worry about.

That's the end of this thread.

I am just randomly obsessing over retrovirus, I never even heard of it until today for no reason I was searching the web and that popped up, I was tested for std everything was fine, I even had a full blood count done everything was fine. I am super healthy I can't remember the last time I was sick I just want to know if retrovirus is something I should be worried about

EBV almost never causes infections or health problems in newborns.  CMV does so only when the first infection occurs during pregnancy, and this is rare.  If you already have CMV, it will cause no harm to your baby.  Please stop worrying about it.

So either way if I do have the virus it will not be passed to my child during child birth?

Welcome to the forum.

You need not worry about these viruses.  Most people naturally are infected with both EBV and CMV in childhood, without ever causing symptoms.  EBV is never a problem for pregnancy and childbirth.  CMV can sometimes cause problems, but as you seem to know already, the only serious risk for a newborn occurs when the mother is infected the first time during pregnancy.  Even then, this is a rare problem.

So all is well.  You do not need testing and should not be at all worried.  Best wishes for you, your husband, and a healthy pregnancy and children in the future.
