move past it bud -- if you need someone to talk to feel free to pm me.
Okay, this is reassuring information, thanks Rae1.
PEP does delay seroconversion. It is advised that the patient be tested three months after stopping PEP for a conclusive result. This probably pushed their window period out further than normal as well.
Normally, 3 months after stopping PEP is sufficient, but each of these HCW's probably took PEP for at least 4 weeks, if not more.
you would have elevated liver enzymes due to acute HCV infection most likely. Although elevated liver enzymes have quite a few causes, you could never pinpoint hcv directly without an antibody or viral load test.
Furthermore, the case of the healthcare worker with HCV that died in 11 mos was many years ago. There is a reason there have only been a few cases, ever. There are quite a few co-infected people today and they did not seroconvert late. HCV does not delay the window period because there were two or three cases years ago of people who were co-infected testing late. Furthermore, we don't understand the entire cirumstances behind these cases.
Teak, correct me if I'm wrong :)
What is your exposure if any?
Is this something that you are dealing with or have seen personaly?

How often does this senario present itself?
This is only during coinfection, not when the person already has hep-c present right? I don't have hep-c or hiv as of my last two test, so if this were happening to me would the doctor notice other anomilies in my blood work or other work ups that would be a red flag for late seroconversion? Concerned...
If one has HCV, testing at 12 months is nothing. You'll be testing anyway so it doesn't matter.
seroconversion is a case by case basis, that is why there is a thing called a window period, as far as being beyond that it also a case by case basis. no one can explain it. immunosuppressed can still sero early, it just depends, coinfection can sero earlier it just depends. If you are that worried wait 12 months
get tested out to 12 months, because that sounds like what you want to do
