AB + RNA TEST

Hi  DR HHH  OR DR HOOK.

I had a unproteced vaginal sex for about 3 mins , with a girl that I meet on holiday in mexico and after I got really worried, whan I ask her she sad that she had a test 5 months before but after that she had a boyfriend, any way I got tested after 5 weeks NEG. now in canada after 7 weeks and 5 days i did an AB raped test and an RNA  test all come back NEG. The DR that took my test told me will be 100% but in the clinic today they  told me   that is very very very reliable and they are not worry about me but still they recommend another test after 12 weeks to be 100%  . I took the impression that they want to tell me that am fine but they cant because off the official WP is 12 weeks.  Can you please tell if  I have to take an other test or can i forget about this and move on with my life ,

( sorry for my english)

Thank you JP

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your question.

I agree with your doctor:  the combination of a negative RNA test and antibody test, at the times you had them, is 100% conclusive proof you did not catch HIV.  As far as I'm concerned, there is no need for any additional testing, at 12 weeks or any other time.

Below are links to two threads that go into detail about window periods with the available tests, including a discussion why official advice remains offical advice from most agencies despite clear evidence for earlier conclusive results.

I hope this has helped.  Best wishes--  HHH, MD
