No Seroconversion Past 3 Months for 10 Years - UK 2006
www.bashh.org/guidelines/2006/hiv_testing_june06.pdf
Improved antibody tests and the application of PCR tests have served to lessen the interval it takes to detect infection (in some cases less than 2 weeks from exposure). Patients asked to return 3 months after suspected high risk activity for HIV transmission often fail to do so 7. Thus, testing of individuals should not be delayed for 3 months, particularly in those suspected of infection: those unwell or who may be seroconverting. IIb B
Observational data are limited 8-14, but in ten years of application of the 'three months rule' by all members of the UK HIV Laboratory Forum no reports of its failure have been received, and thus it is recommended that in general the three month rule continues to be applied 15. IV C Patients may be infectious to others during this period and should be advised of this. In cases where post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is given a 6 month follow-up test is recommended due to the fact that antiretrovirals may reduce replication and prolong antibody response 15.
The presence of clinical features suggesting HIV infection (see box 2) or a particular increased risk should be noted (see box 3). Consideration should be given to ask such individuals to return to the clinic for the result, providing if necessary the opportunity of additional support and counselling. Those who exhibit clinical symptoms may also require medical input prior to the result of the HIV test.
Ohio- 3 months but hiv counsler told me at 8 1/2 weeks she didn't look for it to change from neg. to pos.
The national hiv/aids hotline in jamaica gives a 8 weeks window period which is the information issued to them by the ministry of health here, however , the clinic i got tested at still uses the 3 month window period. i asked the concelor at the clinic why they give a 3 month window period when the ministry of health gives 8 weeks and he said ..... '' well we could have a result at 4 to 6 weeks but i still use the 3 month period so no matter where in the world you go after you leave here ( the clinic) your result will not change "
usa is 12/13 weeks (3months) according to cdc
How about the official window period of USA ?????
Jamaica is 6 week conclusive.
The state of Maine USA Health department is also 6 week conclusive irregardless of approved test.
3 months is chinese official window period , but a lot of specialists in china approve 6 weeks is almost conclusive.

In Uk, Most Dr's Will Refuse to Test on Ethical grounds after 3 months. I Had great difficulty Getting the 23 Week Test (6 month). (DNA Proviral Tests show HIV-1 at 10 Days)
After 3 months, Most Dr's in UK advise a Psychiatrist.

8 weeks is almost conclusive.

I think most of countries use ELISA(general III , IV) , and the topic base on it.
there is a wrong belief between pople in this forum, which is windoe period time ...
window period is not changing from one country to another country at all , u guys think that 6 months time is for poor countries and 3 months is for rich and developed countries ...
using very simple and small device can show detectable antibody in our blood no matter we are from poor or rich countries... even in poorest countries like afghanistan or in poorest countries in africa it is now available ,so 6 months time is conclusive officialy ... remember there is an exception in every rule
In my country, 3 months is the official window period, recommended by Government run Aids Control Program, under the Ministry of Health. I am from Pakistan
