Another Blood Contact Situation..

I was at work yesterday and this man came to my register and while I was ringing him out I noticed there was blood all over the shoes that he was buying. I looked right at him and said "Um, sir? You're bleeding." and sure enough on his finger he was "gushing" (by means was he was REALLY bleeding out) and I grabbed him a kleenex and went back to finishing his order so he could leave. He left, my manager cleaned up the mess, no worries.

I have 2 one week old cuts on my fingers, both covered by bandaids and haven't bled in over a week. I'm not necessarily worried about them but something in my back of my mind says "Oh wait maybe the blood came in contact with the cuts."

Stupid, I know. I mean really these cuts are not "fully" healed but they haven't bleed for a week and are covered with antibotics from the bandaids.

I was also pricked on another finger for donating blood 2 days before it happened. I really doubt that ANYTHING go into it because it's just a pricked finger and not considered as a wound.

what I'm trying to say is, are my "not-so-much-fears" actually correct and that I really don't have a reason to worry? I wasn't bleeding myself and I immediately washed my hands and deep sanitized my hands afterwards.

Yeah, I just looked at my hand today and was putting on a new bandaid and the cuts looked healed so I'm doubting that even though I came in contact with the blood, there would be no way it could been in my blood stream but I'm still a little sketchy and nervous :-/

thanks for everyone's response.

Thank you for answering. That definitely helps calm whatever doubt I had in my whole "I don't have anything I'm fine" thoughts. The wound looks healed on the inside skin and I only had a cut there from a desk hitting my ring and pinky fingers on the 29th. Small cuts but lots of blood.

cuts start healing from the inside out, almost immediately.  a cut that is one week old would be SEALED from anything entering the blood stream.

you had NO risk.

I have 2 one week old cuts... not 2 week old cut... but still kind of the same difference. The skin underneath the cuts seems to be healed, just the top of the skin is still in healing but you can see underneath is almost healed. It didn't scab but it was covered.

Hi there..

You have nothing to worry about. HIV cannot be passed through bandaids. Also, a '2 week' old cut or abrasion would have been scabbed and a scab is as effective in preventing HIV transmission as intact skin. A 2 day old 'prick' - one I assume they do with a stylus to check blood sugar before donating is also not an entry point for HIV. Now coupled with the remote chances of the person who walked into the store having HIV means you have nothing to worry about. Take care
