Anxious to death

Dear Doctors please advise me I am scared to dearh. I had brief oral sex and fingering with a Brazilian gay man.

I had the following tests

10 days hiv 1 and 2 pcr negative
I also had duo tests at 4 weeks 6 weeks 8 weeks and 9 weeks post exposure all negative.

I am really stressed that i got infected by hiv 2 as i read online that it is not that rare in Brazil.

All my tests were performed by the doctors laboratory. nHS advised that my tests are conclusive however i am very worried because p24 has nothing to do with hiv 2 and if i am a delayed seroconverter this means that i might be positive.

Please note that i have been diagnosed with an oral thrush and my tongue is extremely coated and very very sore and this cannot be a coincidence since i never had one.

Please advise me. Cannot focus on anything. I have convinced myself i am infected.

Thanks drs.

You need to be patient.  We do not man this site 24/7/ the MedHelp standard is to reply within 24 hours- we are far more responsive.

The DUO is completely accurate at any time after 4 weeks.  "Late seroconversion" is about as close to an urban myth for you as it gets.

Your tests show you did not get HIV.  Believe them. EWH

Dear Dr. Hook,

Thank youf or your reassurance. I am not sure i understand though the following. how come Duo would pick HIV2 in case of delayed seroconversion since p24 is only produced by hiv1? Would you claim that i would be clear of hiv even at a very high exposure witht he tests i had?

Welcome to the Forum.  Your tests provide definitive information that you did not acquire HIV from the exposure you describe. This is not surprising.  You do not know that your partner has HIV (most men who have sex with other men do not), HIV is not transmitted by masturbation,  and the transmission through oral sex is very, very rare (so rare that some experts say it does not happen).  You now have multiple tests which test for a variety of markers of HIV infection including the virus DNA 9by PCR), the virus p24 antigen (the combo test), and antibodies to HIV at times when these results are totally reliable.  Even if you had been infected by HIV-2, which is very rare in Brazil and is even causes only a minority of infections in West Africa where it is most common, your tests will have detected them.  It is time for you to stop worrying and understand that you were not infected by HIV in the encounter that you have described.

I hope my comment will be helpful to you. You did not get HIV from the encounter you describe above. EWH

you never had a risk to begin with. The duo test at 4 weeks is conclusive enough.

I believe HIV 2 (which is rare in Latin America) lest you were in Africa, is not common. Regardless, I believe the MD's may state that HIV 1/2 would be picked up on a standard HIV 1 test regardless.  Your HIV tests out to 9 weeks prove this (that you are negative). Regardless, you were not at risk as HIV is not transmitted via oral sex nor fingering.
