As mechfab said, there is basically no risk of acquiring HIV from a blood transfusion (at least in the US/EU). People at risk for HIV are barred from donating, plus blood is screened for HIV anyway. In the US, I don't think there has been a case of HIV transmission in this manner in many years.

Where are you from? Blood banks a very very safe. Blood donations are screened heavily for infections. Blood donation centers screen out what they consider high risk individual from donating blood. Rest assured that your transfussion is very very safe.
