Blood and Cuts

This past Friday I got a manicure at a new salon.  The woman doing my nails cut the side of my pinkie with the nail file and caused it to bleed.  After this happened I noticed that she had several cuts on her hand which appeared to be bleeding.  Assuming she is infected with HIV and her blood got into my cut either from the nail file or touching my cut to her finger am I at any risk of HIV?  I question her status she was telling me that she is getting a divorce from her husband since she caught him cheating on her.  Thank you for your response.

Thank you Dr. HHH  I appreciate your straight forward answer and that you don't feed into people's "What if" questions.  That is why I posted this question to you.  I really appreciate your quick response.

This question was accurately answered on the HIV community forum.  Nobody in the world ever caught HIV from this sort of event.  Even if the manicurist had HIV, there was no risk -- and almost certainly she does not.  Just because someone has an unfaithful partner doesn't mean s/he is at risk for HIV.  You do not need testing.

Let's not have any OCD-driven "yes but" or "what if" questions.  There is no information you can provide that will change my opinion or advice.

Regards--  HHH, MD
