Possiable exposure

Hello Doc here is my situation i live in the us,i have known a girl for aprox 6 months we talked and she said she had no stds. She had told me her bf used heroin and he no longer does,i asked her did he ever share needles and she said no he actully hates needles which i thought was very weird u use herion but yet u hate needles odd i thought. So one night we got together and were fooling around and she was ontop of me giving me a hand job next thing i knew she put me inside her(vagina)I was shocked and taken back after 30 -45 sec i stoped and pulled her off again she told me she had no stds. She said i get tested when i go to the gyno.I had an hiv test prior to anything with her and i was negative so she knew i was negative cause i told her.So after a few days i contacted her and asked her again about hiv and she said please stop accusing me of an std.So i left it at that then a few weeks later 18 days after we had breif unprotected vaginal intercorse i got a hiv test done (quick test from a finger *****)The test came out negative,i have had no symptoms and i feel ok,so im worried am i ok or not?The health dept told me to come back in 6 months for another test.So im just wondering what you think my risk is,im just assuming she is positive as a worse case thing. What is my risk after 30 -45 sec of intercorse if she was positive?Do i need another test?or im i worried about nothing. Thanks for all your help

You are OK now.  In fact, as mentioned before, you were OK longer before this.  Time to move on.  EWH

I think you are getting carried away and have little to worry about.  You had a single exposure to a woman who had a high risk partner in the past.  Your chances of having gotten HIV from this exposure are extraordinarily low.  Here's why:

1.  Chances are your partner did not have HIV.  She would have had to get it from her prior partner and then passed it on to you --unlikely on the basis of statistics alone.
2.  She said she had been tested and was negative.  Most persons tell the truth.
2.  Your chance of getting HIV, if she was infected is less than one in 1000 per exposure.
3.  You have had an HIV test at 2 weeks.  After 2 weeks over 50% of tests that are going to become positive will have.

When you put all of these facts together, your chances of being infected from the exposure you describe is less than one approaches zero.  If you get retested in the future, you will be a little bit, but not much more sure that you are not infected.  If I were you I would take the results I have, forget about your risk of having gotten infected and move on with your life.  I would not get further testing.

Hope this helps.  EWH
