RNA PCR & 4th Gen Duo test at 31 Days and Terrified

Dr. I am a 46 year old male and had risky exposure 35 days ago.  She provide oral sex with no condom and then proceeded to climb on me. I immediately pushed her off but I did break the vaginal opening with my penis with vaginal fluid.  I am terrified.  I had a RNA PCR test and 3 rd gen antibody test done at 10 days and both were negative.

Then it all started to happen.  At 16 days an unknown raised rash on arm and chest slightly itchy and a dry mouth with white tongue.  So I tested again on 21 day with total std panel plus RNA PCR test and 3rd gen antibody test.  All tests negative.

Rash went away on day 23 then I started night sweats, losing weight while I eating same amount, unexplained multiple bruises, dry skin and  body aches in joints and lymph nodes under arms.  Day 28 rash came back on arms chest legs, and back looks like petechiae.

I tested again on Day 31 another test.  I took complete panel, RNA PCR test and 4th generation antigen & antibody test.   All came back negative.   I went to Dr on day 35  because of rash on my penis and he thinks it is fungal or HSV so gave me a cream.  I asked him about oral thrush but be said there was no evidence but I asked him to take a culture anyway. Results in two days.

I haven't slept in a month and freaking out.  Can the insane stress causing some my symptoms?  Should I have confidence in the Day 31 test results?  Please help

One more questions I forgot to ask about the lab.  I did all my tests at a LabCorp testing site.  They are new to me since I am new to this area.  Are they a reputable firm.

Welcome to the forum.

First, I will repeat what you were already told on the community forum:  you had an exposure that carried little or no risk for HIV.  Even with full vaginal penetration and several minutes of unprotected intercourse, if the woman has HIV, the risk to her male partner is around 1 chance in 2,000.  With the possible (uncertain) minimal penetration you had, the chance is probably a hundred times lower. And receiving oral sex is also zero risk or close to it.  On top of that, the odds are strong your partner did not have HIV anyway.  Soi there really was no need for HIV testing, except for reassurance purposes.

But getting to your specific question:  The HIV blood tests are among the most accurate tests that exist, for any medical condition.  The combination of negative PCR at 10 days plus negative antibody at 31 days is 100% proof positive you did not catch HIV. The test results overrule everything else, including symptoms.  Your symptoms are not typical for a new HIV infection -- but even if they were, and even if you had had a very high risk exposure, you can trust the test results.

As for your symptoms, your doctor has already given you a likely cause, so I won't speculate further -- except to repeat that it doesn't sound like HIV and your test results prove it is not.

So you can relax.  All is well and you can forget HIV; you don't have it, do not need any further testing, and if you have a regular partner, ycan safely continue unprotected sex without risk of transmission.

Best regards--  HHH, MD
