Convinced about Vacutiner Needle, But if REUSED Vacutiner Tubes

Hi All,

I am convinced that, needle is not used. and no problem with Reused Vacutiner Plastic Holder... But Now I am freaking out that, if TUBE is REUSED... Instead of negative pressure inside the Tube, Postive pressue in tube injected some thing into my vein ??????????/.....Also I saw,  the TUBE (With Blood draw) was kept in Horizontal Postion on the Table, the blood was not coming out....

One more thing to put your mind at ease..even if an empty blood collection tube that had been pierced was reused, nothing would happen, blood would not flow into the tube, it works with the vacuum pressure.

OK.........THANKS A LOT..... You mean to say even it (needle on the Tube Side) doesn't touch the blood inside the TUBE..
anyways , it was great learning experience...

You would never have a risk from a blood draw.  Blood doesn't flow IN only out.  Even the blood collection tubes only fill so far, they are self limiting, that's why they don't leak or overflow, plus, the rubber stopper on top of the vial is self sealing, so once the needle is removed, it seals back up.

THANKS A TON... Since they don't use Advanced BD Vacutiner System, I had all these doubts... latest Vacutiner is ENTIRELY DISPOSABLE after Single Use with more safety feature...

OH!  The blood collection tube?  NO, it cannot be reused.  Once it has been pierced, the vacuum that draws the blood into the tube is gone, the seal is broken.  PLUS, blood can not flow OUT of the blood tube.

How come TUBE is holding the blood after the blood is drawn.. Even though the TUBE is kept in Horizontal Position... and Blood is not getting leaked... .

You would have to have a nurse show you how it works.  A vacutainer has a small hole in it on the skinny side, and larger hole on the other side.

The needle part (seperate piece of equipment) is two sided...one side has the needle that goes into your arm, the other side is a rubber coated sharp needle like object that pierces the top of the blood collection tube.

THAT side (rubber coasted needle) gets SCREWED into the vacutainer tube (luer lock).  The blood collection tube fits perfetly into the vacutainer and essentially just acts to give the phlebotomost more control (especially when drawing multiple vials)...blood can actually be drawn without a vacutainer.

Blood doesn't leak out because it's going from one needle (in your arm) through and out the collection needle side directly into the collection tube.  The vacutainer is more or less just a positioning sheath.  Ask someone to show you.  In no way would it cause a risk.

This is about Vacutiner TUBE and negative Pressure inside it. not about Holder. I understand NO Risk in that as you explained earlier.
OK,

a) Can TUBE be Resued to draw the Blood ?
b) If Reused can it inject anything into vein ?

Vacutainer holders (meant to hold blood collection vial in place) can be reused.  It is not inserted INTO your body and actually has little contact with your body.  NO HIV risk.

Joggen is correct,...get professional help.

Yes, I am convinced about Needle and Holder... But wanted to know incase, if they have reused TUBES. I understand, vacutiner can't inject anything into your vein..
But....

1) Can Vacutiner TUBE be REUSED to draw blood ?
2) If Reused, Postive Pressure in the TUBE can inject anything.

Please answer this.. I will Stop
