Could I have performed my HIV rapid test incorrectly ?

I just performed a rapid test on myself, but am afraid I may have done it incorrectly.

Initially I put in a drop of blood and two drops of the mixture and waited five minutes but there was no reaction at all to the testing device. I realised maybe I didn't put enough liquid (either blood or mixture) since a few drops of my blood was caught on the side of the opening. So, I pushed the remaining drops of blood and mixture into the opening and thats when the control line started to appear.

I'm wondering if the initial blood / mixture in the device would have already soiled the mixture and the control line appears only because it detected liquid.

that's why it is imperative that you follow the instruction given by the manufacturer, to avoid situations like this. if youre not happy with the way you did the procedure, get another one and do it again. it was calm your anxiety down.

Anyways, what was your exposure?
