i said my SPEP with a risk since 17 years in addition to what my doctor said that i am not immunodeficient .... could i testing for hiv with more confidence ?
The range of serum protein we look for r albumin, alpha 1,2 beta and gamma.
Only an increase in gamma suggests polyclonal and monoclonal gammopathies.
Chronic infection cause increase in immunoglobin.
However, sometimes we miss the presence of m protein as it is too little to be detected.
What u need to know is that the tool to diagnose hiv is either looking for specific ag, ab, rna etc... None is related to this electrophoresis gel.
However, one tool for diagnosing the symptoms u r experiencing is to use this SPEP.
Since it happened 17 years ago, u would probably be dead if u have hiv.
This forum only deals with HIV, so I'll answer that portion of the question: ONLY an HIV test can detect HIV. However, if your last risk event was in 2001, and you had contracted HIV from that event and had gone all this time without treatment, you would be extremely ill by now, if not deceased. You can test any time if you want peace of mind, but it is extremely unlikely that you have been infected with HIV for almost 18 years without knowing it.
