Hiv in water and eyes

Hi Dr. I hope you can help me here. I was in the shower with a man and we masturbated each other for a while until we both came. The thing here is that I came first and this guy later. What happened next is that after we finished showering when I was changing my clothes, my eyes were hurting a little, very little but they hurt. They didn't turn red or something. I was very worried about this. Could the semen of this guy in any chance may have got mixed in his hands and then with the water and that by that way little semen got into my eyes when he finished showering? Or why did this happen? Because I even didn't use soap, just was showering when I was with him. Also, I had very little cuts in my fingers. Does Hiv in water die immediately or at least gets inactivated to infect? I also have to note that the fan was on in the room when I was changing. I'm trying to be reasonable and think that because of the air of the fan my eyes were hurting a little. I just want your medical opinion to put my mind at rest. Thank you very much.

I was at a hotel spa yesterday. It was a Roman bath  of warm mineral water ( some employees said there was chlorine, some say untreated mineral water) and was bathing nude.  After a few minutes I noticed what definitely looked like semen floating nearby. I am absolutely paranoid now about catching something. Can HIV infect here? Does it die immediately? What if some got in the urethra somehow? Please help.

I have read your interchanges on the HIV community site and agree with them completely.  The chance that you got any of his ejaculate in your eye during this episode is miniscule and even if you did, there is no risk.  Please remember:

1.  You do not know that you r partner has HIV.  Chances are he does not.
2.  Chances of you getting his ejaculate in your eye are likewise tiny.  The blink reflex is one of the fastest movements a body can make and it does an excellent job of preventing things from getting into the eye.
3.  Even is numbers 1 and 2 are incorrect, HIV dies when mixed with tap water as it needs to be in liquids with some salt in it to survive.  If HIV was present and was mixed with water it would die immediately.

You are not at risk, have no need to worry and do not need testing.  I hope this comment will help you to move forward from the concerns you have expressed.  EWH
