need you reassurance

Dear Doctor(s),

I have scanned the forum for the similar cases and I think I got some answers. However let me clarify and ask for your opinion to reassure myself. My name is Pavel, I am a male in my late 30th.

In January this year I had two sexual contacts with two young boys (22-24 years) in Holland (on 24 and 25 of January). We met each other in an internet forum. I asked them and the boys told me that they did not have HIV.

The type of sexual contact we had: no penetrative, no oral, just mutual masturbation (no condom) with ejaculation over a body and kissing (not a deep “French kiss”). Also I performed some deep fingering (on one boy) with a condom on my finger. I had some cuts on my fingers, but I read here that they are irrelevant (are they?).

8 weeks after the contacts I had my negative combo (antibody and antigen) test in a French public hospital. Before I had the test, I was quite sick (high fever, throat ache, coughing, muscle pain in my armpits) and took some penicillin like antibiotics (prescribed by a doctor).

12 weeks after the contacts I repeated the combo test in a different laboratory in France and it came out negative again. Between 8 and 12 weeks I was sick - doctor told me I had bronchitis. Again, I took some antibiotics.
And the last thing. Since January 25th and till now I have not had any other sexual contacts. I do not use any drugs, no pre- or post-prophylactic for hiv.

These are the facts.  The questions to you are: can I consider myself as non HIV infected person?

Could antibiotics screen the test results?  And the last one: sometimes I read that people with a weak immune system are advised to re-test after few months. Considering that I was quite sick during the period between the tests, does it indicate that I might have weak immune system and therefore need retesting?

Thank you for your time.

Welcome to our Forum Pavel.  I'll be glad to help.  To get to the most important point directly.  Your tests prove, without question that you did not get HIV from the encounters last January that you describe.  The DUO tests provide definitive results at any time more than 4 weeks following an exposure.  That you have had two negative tests provides completely reliable results.

As for some of the other issues you raised:
- These were no risk exposures.  That you got their secretions on you , French kissed with them or fingered (with or without a condom) all carry no risk of infection, if your partners happened to have HIV.

-Antibiotics have no effect on HIV test results.  They do not delay development of antibodies.

- There is no need for re-testing.

I hope my comments are helpful to you. There is no need for concern or for further testing related to the encounter you have described. EWH

I understand that there are some organizations and sites that recommend prolonged testing.  In my opinion, these sites do a disservice to their clients because these recommendations lead to prolongs and unnecessary anxiety.  Currently available antibody tests provide reliable results after 8 weeks.  This is a fact.  EWH

Dear Doctor,
Just to understand better what you said regarding my first question. Is it always safe to have a mutual masturbation with a condom on?
Yesterday a man masturbated me. I was wearing a condom. I did not masturbate him. I touched his legs, maybe accidentaly and briefly his genitals.
So, was it safe for hiv and std's?
And one more question please. If he wanted to infect me purpously with a needle, would I notice it?

I will provide a single answer but if you have a new question you should start a new thread.  Also, I should point out that we ask clients to post only two questions in any 6 month period.

We do not view picutres on this site. All too often they prove to be misleading.  What you describe does not sound like an STD but it is difficult to tell without an examination.  If you are concerned, your doctro needs to take a look. EWH

Dear Doctor,

I am sorry, but I think I have to come back to you with a new question. This time not related to HIV.

I have recently (few days) noticed a spot of about 5mm in diameter on the edge of my penis glans. It is difficult to describe its color, I would say it is whitish. It does not hurt, no itching either. It is not thick and not highly dense, maybe slightly above the glans skin level. It is maybe like a plaque. It is really difficult to describe.

Could it be something related to STD (like HPV??) which I could pick up during the contacts I described above? I went to the internet and, by reading and watching pictures, scared myself again.  It would be nice if I could send you a picture of it. But I am not sure such service exists…

I would go to a doctor already tomorrow, but I booked my one week holidays with my family starting tomorrow.. What would be your advice?

Dear Doctor,
Thank you very much  for making me happy.
You may wonder why I posted the question 9 months after the sexual contact. I was confused by some internet links saying that in a particular case it may take 6 months to develop antibodies.
Best regards,
Pavel
