FIV infection in humans?

Dear Sir, I realy need an answer to the claim of Janet Yamamoto that FIV can infect humans in vivo.

US patent
http://www.google.com/patents/US8182820
http://www.patentgenius.com/patent/8182820.html

Is this for real?
Can my FIV+ cat give me FIV? Can I transmit it to my girlfriend?
I read the whole thing and they claime that 2 people have testet positiv for FIV with decteable antibodies so far. They were both asymtomatic.

I'm now realy scared!

It appears that you did not read my reply.  I have addressed these issues in my reply.

You are correct, if this were true and important it would be very big news.  Even this report, which is unconfirmed and should not be believed unless it is confirmed, notes that the persons that these investigators think are  infected with FIV are asymptomatic.

I don't know where you came across this but this is NOT somehting for you to be worried qabout.  EWH

Dear Sir, Please read the copy text below? What does this mean??
If people could be infected, wouldn´t this be really big news? I havn´t found any article about this.

What does this mean
"Both of the human subjects infected with FIV identified thus far are currently clinically and immunologically asymptomatic"

From the text:
The subject invention concerns materials and methods for detecting, preventing and treating infection by FIV in humans and other non-feline animals susceptible to infection by FIV. The present invention is based on the surprising discovery that FIV can be transmitted from cats to humans and can infect human cells in vivo. Human subjects have been identified that are FIV positive and appear to have been infected through contact with their pet cats. Infection of humans by FIV has been demonstrated by confirmation of the presence of FIV nucleotide sequences in human cells using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and by Western blot detection of FIV proteins expressed in human cells. Sequence analysis confirms that the subject is infected with FIV. Both of the human subjects infected with FIV identified thus far are currently clinically and immunologically asymptomatic. It has also been demonstrated that antibodies to FIV cross-react with HIV proteins. In addition, antibodies from FIV vaccinated animals can neutralize HIV-1 virus. The subject invention also concerns materials and methods for preventing and treating infection by HIV in humans.

I´m healthy and have a normal immunesystem. I don´t have FIV, right??

Welcome to the Forum.  Please do not worry.  The purpose of patents is to protect ideas that investigators hope to investigate.  There is no credible evidence that I am aware of that FIV causes disease in humans.  Please do not worry and do not worry about your cat, the possiblity of it infecting you or you infecting your girlfriend.  EWH
