HIV AND NOSE PICKING

Hi... I recently visited a colleague who happens to be HIV + . I stopped by his office to sign some papers when I noticed blood drips on his desk. Big deal right? Well, this was after I had signed those papers with a pen that my colleague had handed me. It had blood on it which I did not realize until after I struck gold in my nose. My friend had excused himself because of the nose bleed but I did not know that is why he excused himself! The finger that I picked my nose with did indeed have blood on it! Right where I had held the pen. How much of a risk is this? Please advise! Scared S___less!

No cases of sharing a razor, or food or whatever. Your either finding fake info from your constatnt searching or your just making stuff up.
You had no risk. If you don't believe us then pay and post in the expert forum or do whatever you want, our assestment is not going to change.

Guys, I am not looking to argue, I am trying to find answers! So many sites state that only a minute amount of blood can infect you. There are also documented cases that claim transmission happened from sharing a razor! That is not but almost microscopic compared to what blood was on my finger that went into my nose!

Rainlover, is the inside of nose not considered a mucous membrane that HIV could penetrate?

If they suggested that you could contract HIV from picking your nose then they are not experts.

I thought the mucosal membrane of the nose was a good entry point... I have read that in several HIV articles written by experts!

I think your OCD is getting the better of you.Hiv needs to get into your bloodstream and the only way it can do this is inside the body not outside it.

The CDC doesn't say that al all.

Why does the CDC say I had a risk? They say that less than a pin-head amount of blood can infect you!

You can't contract HIV picking for gold--next time just wash your hands--before and after--you had no risk--stop stressing.

As soon as it left his nose.

So the minute it went from his body to the pen to my finger then my nose, the virus becomes unable to infect? I hope you are correct! For my sake and everyones! That does not seem right.

Teak, thanks, but this wasn't blood that had spilled from his nose hours ago, it literally had just happened and I unfortunately touched it and picked my nose with it! Kind of scary...

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.
