HIV risk after protected sex

Hi docs ,
On the 6th of this mth , about 14 days ago . I had protected vaginal sex with a masseur .according to her, she often do not provide sexual services , however as I am a regular client of hers , she is comfortable as was I with the arrangement , this is the third time I had it with her . All the time it was with protection , all this while there were no concerns , however the recent event , I had a tender penis head , this was due to over aggressive masturbation . Initially I was very confident that there should b no risk as it was fully protected , condom fully intact " I made sure all the time " plus I did not ejaculate . However recent developments has got me worried . I have a few qns to ask .
1) would foreskin inflammation increase my risk of infection
2) my salivary glands are swollen , how ever I have no sore throat , I do get sudden bouts of malaise , especially in the evenings , had it for the past few days.my symptoms have been on and off but only the swollen salivary gland remains a constant. A part of my torso have been tingling , tingling feeling isolated to the left of my stomach. I suspect it might b shingles but it started last monday and no sign of rashes
3) am I at a risk ?

Reread the last comment in my previous reply. This isn't an emotional support service for people who cannot or will not accept reasoned, science-based advice. Feel free to report your final test result, but any anxiety driven comments before then will result in immediate deletion of the entire thread.

Hi doc ,
I am doing my best to stay calm until it's time to get tested . However I am getting this tingling feeling like itch every evening for the last three nights , without fail every evening around 7 I will feel itch on my back , torso... It travels throughout my body , but in the day , I am fine.  I am not sure whether this is in my head, or it's really sometime sinister . No rash is visible but the itch is definitely there.

Of course your massage partner could have HIV -- but on average, under 1% of female sex workers has the virus in your part of the world (Singapore) or in western Europe or North America.  Second, even without a condom, the chance of catching HIV from a single epsiode of unprotected sex (no condom) averages less than once for every 1,000 exposures.  And claims of catching HIV despite using a condom are mostly bogus; the majority of HIV infected people do not actually know which exposure gave them their infection.

Ignore any more "what if" or "could I be the exception" thoughts.  In the 10 years of this forum, not one questioner has acutally caught HIV after an exposure they were concerned about, despite what symptoms they had and despite how high risk the exposure was.  You aren't going to be the first.  Do your best to move on -- and also avoid the temptation to keep asking quesitons that are pretty much the same each time.  Our replies will never change!

Hi doc , your assessment with regards to my fears of HIV is spot on ! However , I am curious at your confidence with regards to the final conclusion that you derived . Firstly , how can one be sure that my partner was HIV free , though I was sure the condom was intact , but I was told that people had been infected even when they used condoms..
On hindsight I visited a doc today and was told that physically I am healthy i.e no swollen glands , no nodes , no sore throat . I am aware that anxiety could have gotten the better of me , however I still bear the thought that ARS could still happen .

Welcome back to the forum.  But after your other threads on this and the STD forum, I'm concerned that you continue to be overly fearful of HIV.  All your questions indicate a low risk sexual lifestyle for HIV, and the same is true here.  Directly to your questions:

1,3) With condom protected sex, a rash on your penis makes no difference in your risk, which was zero (both because of the condom and because almost certainly your massage partner didn't have HIV). You were not at risk.

2) These symptoms are not typical of a new HIV infection or any other STD.

See your doctor if your symptoms persist or you otherwise remain concerned; they have nothing to do with the sexual exposure 2 weeks ago, except for the possibility that some symptoms are due to anxiety over the event.  If you want further reassurance about HIV, wait until 4-6 weeks after the event and get tested.  But stay relaxed in the meantime; there is no way you have HIV.

Regards--  HHH, MD
