HIV blood potentially on cuticle skin tear.

Hi,

I am a nursing student and just tonight I went to flush a gelco/IV canular of a HIV positive patient. During this process, a small amount of his blood flushed back onto an alcohol wipe I was using to sterilise the access point. I am not 100% sure if any of the blood came in contact with a small cuticle skin tear on my pointer finger or not. However the tear is approximately 1.5-2 days old and slightly scabbed. If the blood did come in contact with the wound, what are my chances of having HIV, and what do measures should I now take?

Thanks

Not an HIV concern . But as a nursing student, I am curious as to why you weren't following  glove use and compliance with hand hygiene policies.

But again, gloves or no gloves, your particular exposure did not put you at risk for HIV infection.

Not a concern whatsoever even if the blood came in direct contact with the cuticle tear?
