HIV risk

Hey,
A few weeks back I visited an Transexual CSW in Amsterdams Red light district,
We both performed Protected anal and oral with neither of us ejaculating.  We also engaged in open mouth kissing.
I have been fairly stressed since the encounter and would like to know how much of a risk I am at.

I would like to thank you in advance for your response.

6-8 weeks after exposure is long enough, but some experts recommend going as long as 3 months for 100% assurance.  For more details, there are innumerable discussions throughout this forum.

Thank  you for your quick response.  How long do I need to wait to get an accurate test result?

As far as the encounter I feel that everything was handled as safe as possible.  It is just the "what if" mentality that can get us sometimes.

Again thanks for your time and response

Congratulations for using condoms for anal sex, which provide nearly 100% protection against HIV when they don't break.  Kissing carries no HIV risk.

Amsterdam has excellent public health STD/HIV services and offers free exams and testing to CSWs, and my understanding is that many CSWs get regularly tested and have low rates of HIV.  I am unaware of possible different risks for male vs female vs transsexual CSWs, but as in most of the world, the chance of infection is higher in men who have sex with men.  All in all the chance probably is low your partner was infected, but of course I have no way to judge for any particular CSW.

Considering all these factors, the chance you caught HIV is extremely low, probably zero.  But why not get tested anyway?  If you are like most people in this situation, my reassurance won't completely settle your fears.  You'll probably sleep better after a negative HIV test.  (This is not code that I really believe you might have been infected.  I do not.)

Good luck--  HHH, MD
