Rapid Test Needle Used

Hi

I had a rapid Duo Test On My 11 Weeks Which was Nagitive at a Private Clinic In England..The Problem is that The Docter used a long Needle(not a lancet) To Prick my Thumb to do the test..The doct0r told me to look away before he pricked the needle on my thumb, I could not see the needle, I am worried if it may be used.I spoke to the doctor afterwards on the phone he said that he never uses old needles.can i still get infected with hiv or do need to retest again.

thanks

You are correct he didn't have a needle prick.

Since 1985 to now there have over 950,000 occupational exposures per year to HIV in the healthcare field and in out of all those exposures there have been less that 250 person infected.

There is no one on this forum that knows more than the CDC about occupational transmissions,go to the CDC website & read it for yourself.

Hi Rainlover71

Teak thinks you dont, because its a quick prick. and its not injected to the vein..this bit is very confusing

You don't get infected by a prick and no one in the healthcare has ever been infect by just a prick.

It has happened in hospital settings to nurses & doctors but it's not common. That's how Dr Bob Frascino was infected in 1991.Read what the CDC says about needlestick injuries.

Hi RainLover

This is my final question, if someone is (very quick like a prick) injected with a syring that has HIV inside it on to his finger can the person still  be infected with HIV.But this not injected to to vains..Just on his finger that has no vains. What is the chance of getting no HIV

You never had an exposure.
HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug users
Mother to child

Thanks

When he took blood from my thumb he put it on the duo strip..if  the needle was infected (hiv) it would have mixed with my own blood that was put on the rapid duo strip which the result was nagitive is this true and secondly he squezed the blood out.is this a good sign..

thanks for your help

They never reuse needles,as soon as once is used it is thrown into a sharps container, you never had a risk.
