do i need pep?

Dear Doctor,

I am new this site and this community. Please excuse me if similar question has been answered before.

My exposure was with a white male (met over internet) of about 30yo from Germany.

We were in his car on the front sits. He was on the driver sit and I was on the passenger sit. He masturbated himself. I masturbated myself. That was essentially it. We did not touch each other.

I am worried because I think there was a possibility that his sperm splatter could arrive at the head of my genitals. I have not noticed anything but theoretically there could be a chance.

Also i asked him if he had hiv. He told me no. But of course I do not know if i can trust him.

Do I need PEP? Was it high risk?

Sorry my English.

There is no risk for HIV or any STD from mutual masturbation, even without condoms.  Similarly, there has never been a case of HIV proven to be transmitted by receiving unprotected oral sex however there is a tiny risk (less than 1 in 10,000) associated with performing oral sex on an HIV infected partner.

Hope this helps.  Probably time for this thread to end. Take care. EWH

Dear Doctor,

Would you recommend to use condoms for mutual masturbation and oral with the guys of unknown status?

I am staying away from any penetrative sex.

Thank you.

Welcome to our Forum. It will be my pleasure to address your question and to provide some information.  HIV is transmitted from person to person in adults only by unprotected, penetrative, genital or ano-genital sexual contact and by injection of infected materials deep into tissue.  It is not transmitted by surface contact with infectious materials as may occur in the course of mutual masturbation or in the situation that you describe with possible "splatters".  thus even if this person had HIV, there was no risk for you to become infected through the activities you describe.  For this reason there is no reason to worry, no reason to test, and certainly no reason to take PEP.

I should add that it is unlikely that this person had HIV- most people do not and when asked,, most people tell the truth.

I hope my comments are helpful to you.  EWH
