Standard testing for HIV is to have an ELISA test performed on a blood specimen. The second test is only needed if the first test is positve in order to rule the possiblity that it was afalse positve result. EWH
There is no evidence that you have HIV. I would not be concerned and see no reason for further testing./ EWH
Dear Sir Doctor Edward
I couldn't be able to wait for another 1 weeks so I need your advise if I should turn the HIV false positive page forever, Today did 2 tests HIV Combo and PCR-DNA and the result were Negative do you think this is enough as I'm 7 weeks and half after the high risk exposure and 1 month after the false positive? Or should I retest again in another week?
correct. I predict it will be negative. EWH
Thanks doctor for your answer, my last exposure was 4 weeks ago so in repeating the test after another 4 weeks which type of test I should ask for and then based on the result ( i pray to be Negatitve again) will be no more test required in future for ever. Agree with me? ( this is the last question)
Glad to hear the result. If it has been 8 weeks since your exposure of concern, your accept these results as complete proof that you do not have HIV. If 8 weeks have not passed yet, you need to repeat the test after 8 weeks. The result, which I rpredict will be negative, will then prove that you do not have HIV. EWH
Dear Doctor Edward
Today I went to hospital & I asked them to do Elisa test for my self and fortunately this kind of test was available and I Just got the result on my hand which is Negative :) Now I'm glad to get such result on this reliable test but now do your advise me to do another conformity test for my self not to be 99% sure but I want to be 100% sure so which type and after how many weeks please?
Thanking you
Thanks doc.
It was a high risk exposure and If I did understand you correctly I should do another in the Hospital as soon as can and I should do another test in 8 weeks time in the hospital again to confirm the first result and with so many different kind of tests available which test I should ask for the FIRST One and Second TEST for 100% reliable result ?
Your questions are a bit hard to follow.
Occasionally all tests, including home HIV tests can give a false positive result. Your positive result, followed by a negative result suggests that you do not have HIV. To be sure however, you should have a repeat test done in a certified laboratory and not rely on home tests.
In these setting, if the first test is positive, your specimen will be tested a second time to make sure that the result is true.
Following a high risk exposure, reliable HIV test results are available at 8 weeks following exposure. At that time, virtually all persons who are going to develop positive tests will do so.
Hope this information is helpful. EWH
