HIV/STD risk

Dear Dr. Hadnsfield/ Dr. Hook

I had a sexual act with a woman of 50 years old (I am 38 male). Because I am generally very scared about catching HIV/STDs, I talked to her before we get together and I told her no oral and no vaginal sex (even with condom). We did do deep kissing and I sucked her nipples (as I said no vaginal/oral/anal). I started to touch her genital for about 5 seconds and then I realized one of the lips of her vagina (do not know the medical term so sorry about that) is bigger than the other and I assumed it was swollen. I thought it could be herpes but I am not sure. So I stopped immediately and did not continue touching her vagina anymore. We continued deep kissing and finally she gave me a handjob.

I have to mention that I have cold sores in my mouth sometimes (I have had it since when I was a child) and now I am really really scared about catching HIV/STD. I did not know if this question belongs to HIV forum or STD but if I need to ask another question in STD, I will do that.

So my questions:

1) How much is the risk for HIV/STDs from deep kissing / Touching her vagina / handjob?
2) Do I need testing?

Thank you for your time and will be waiting for your advice.

While it is known that uterine fibroids can change menses for women who have them, there is no evidence that they chage risk for HIV transmission.  EWH

Thank you doctor for the reassurance. I hate to say this but this is truely my last question.

The woman mentioned told me that she has Uterine Fibroids. And I assume that there is blood discharge occasionally from her vagina (not a medical professional but I assume so). Is that going to increase the risk of HIV/STD? I think the answer to the question is "it cannot" but just wanted to make sure.

As you always say, no further comments on this :)

This was a no risk exposure.  There are no STDs that are transmitted by deep kissing or masturbation.  There is no risk to you.  No testing is needed.

As a point of information, that your partner's vulva (lips of the vagina) was asymetric is likely to be normal variation and does not suggest that she had any sort of STD.

Thanks for asking as to which forum your question about cold sores belongs on- this one is fine.  That you have cold sores is of no consequence to your risk for STD or HIV. It may have placed your partner at risk for getting infected with HSV-1 from you however.  EWH
