Just Another Paranoid College Male

Hey Doc,

So I have been in a relationship for about 7 months now and in the beginning we were having some unprotected sex. After about a month, I was noticing some burning during urination and eventually some discharge. I got tested and all of my results came back negative but I was put on antibiotics. Then I decided it was probably a good idea for my girlfriend to get tested and, turns out, she had Chlamydia. She said she knew who she must have gotten it from because she had only had unprotected sex once with one guy. He is a white male tennis player at our school, but I can't really remember where he's from (i.e. may be foreign of some sort). I know the risk is low of her contracting HIV in addition to the Chlamydia through the one time incident, but I also know having Chlamydia increases the risk (though the risk is still low).

About 6 or 7 weeks ago, I began experiencing vague flu-like symptoms: diarrhea, slight fever, sore throat, nausea, loss of appetite, etc. I have had my flu shot so I know that's not it and I was also tested for mono, which was negative. All of the symptoms went away pretty quickly except for the diarrhea which is still present. I know all of those symptoms can be symptoms of HIV, but I know the chances of that are low. In addition, it should be noted that in the past 5 or 6 months we have basically only had unprotected sex. By basically I mean IF I make unprotected penetration, it is for only a few seconds before I get up and grab a condom.

I would love a little reassurance before spending the money on testing if you believe that is even necessary.

Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.

tested and tell us how it goes. the regulars on the forum say 3 months is conclusive and if you're not crazy u should be able to accept your 6-8 week result.

Testing from unprotected sex is wise. 1st she should get tested because it would have been plenty of time since her last unprotected encounter besides you.
