I know how you are feeling, I've been there, and still go through my own anxiety from time to time. Yes, having an STD can increase the transmission of HIV, but you don't know that he has HIV, so you're dealing with odds and percentages that will most likely amount to nothing. And no, ARS does not appear so soon. It generally shows up 2-4 weeks after infection, but can appear as late as 6 weeks later. The symptoms resemble the flu.
Alcohol and sex is not a good combination. I'm glad that you've decided to be sober. And you're not stupid, everyone makes mistakes, it's a part of life. I'm not sure why the guy hasn't went to get treated and tested, perhaps now he's freaking out, just like you. I would however insist that he gets tested and share the results with you.
I really, really, really hope so. I am so scared. the most i have ever been scared in my life. If it comes back positive, i dont know what im going to do.
I thought that transmission of HIV was greater if the person already had an STD, which he did. ??
I was thinking maybe i got a sore throat from performing oral sex on him, but, I dont remember anything from that night...... im so stupid. I told him later that he gave me the std and he was supposed to go get treatment as well as an HIV test, but for some reason he still has not went ? ? ? one good thing I guess from all this is I went from being a borderline alcoholic to completely sober for the past 35+ days..... i guess that can be a silver lining somewhat..
is it possible to have ARS symptoms so soon?
Thanks again.
I understand your anxiety and I'm sorry you're going through this. Your 32 day test will give a good indication of whether or not you contracted HIV from this encounter, but you should be tested at 3 months for a conclusive result.
That being said, the risk from a one time encounter is low and gonorrhea is much easier to catch than HIV. Strep throat is not an ARS symptom and you know the guy was HIV- a year ago. So the odds are in your favor. Hang in there.
