Hello doctor
I have 2 quick questions
1. I always shake  hands and then hold my penis while urinating without washing.
2. Someone opened the hotel door and held it for me and as i took the door handle from him, i gave myself a cut.

Sorry I misunderstood.  There is absolutely no risk of HIV or any STD from shaking hands and then touching your genital area.  The skin of the penis is no more susceptible to these infections than anywhere on your body -- i.e. zero.

Welcome to the forum.

There's no question there -- you just describe your toilet hygiene, which is not ideal, and a cut on a doorknob.  Presumably you are concerned whether these things put you at risk for HIV.

They did not.  Washing after urination is recommended for general hygiene, but the main reason is to prevent non-sexually transmitted infections like diarrhea, colds, influenza, etc.  There is absolutely no risk for HIV or other STDs from these events.  Even if an HIV infected person had handled the doorknob on which you were cut, you would not be at any risk whatever.  Also, nobody in the world ever caught HIV or any STD from shaking hands with an infected person.  (They call them STDs because you have to have sex to transmit them -- doh!)

I hope this has helped.  Best wishes--  HHH, MD

PS:  Start washing your hands after using the toilet! It's expecially importnat after moving your bowels, but should also be standard after urinating.
