Concerned about blood exposure

Hey guys hoping to ease my mind and get some input on what I should do next.  Here is my scenario I am a cop a few days ago while serving a warrant I had a guy resist. It turned into a 40 minute wrestling match until my backup arrived. While I was getting the handcuffs on him I suffered numerous small lacerations to my hands. They were the size of paper cuts and were not very bloody. The guy I was arresting suffered some pretty deep cuts on his wrists, hands and head. He had visible blood comming out of one of his cuts.  I never saw any if his blood on me or my hands but as soon as it was over I used hand sanitizer on my hands.  I have become concerned that some of his blood may have gotten into some of the minor cuts on my hAnd.  What are the chances of HIV transmission, if this knuckle head had it, which I'm not sure if he did or not.

Thank you both for the great responses.  My stress level has gone down a great bit.

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug abusers
Mother to child

You are correct and the man you were arresting most likely had no blood borne viruses anyway.I can assure you 100% that you had no HIV risk but the HCV does survive longer outside the body where HIV doesn't at all.There is an RNA test that you can have for the HCV that is used for early detection of the virus but speak to your doctor and see if they think it's required.You can also post your question in the HepC forum here at medhelp.All the best.

Thank you for the prompt response.  I am a worry wart so I'm pretty much worried about HIV, HepC and anything else I could have contracted.  I'd imagine even hep c transmission, though possibly more easy to transmit would be unlikely as well, unless we both had pretty deep wounds pretty much in direct contact ? Am I correct ?
