Lingering Sore Throat

I have had a sore thoat for nearly 5 weeks! cant seem to get rid of it.My exposure was
protected vaginal and received Unprotected Oral.I know its low risk and i have had really good support from members of this forum which has helped me with my Anxiety but this sore throat has me freaking out.Could it be an ars symptom?I went for another hiv antibody test today at the 8 week mark.Results should be available next week.has anybody else on the forum who has had a similar exposure experienced a sore throat for this long?? tell me im just freaking out for nothing!!

Hi,my results came thru fine after 3 months,i was negative.I still have the sore throat but it has got slightly better over the last week.I have an appointment at ENT clinic on the 9th of Jan and will fill u in on how it went.I had other symptoms like malaise,burning sensation on scalp and night sweats.In hindsight i can say most of my symptoms were due to Anxiety and stress and they presided as the weeks went by.This forum was a great help and it really helped me calm down and stay focused.I dont come on the forum as much as i used to but i do take a look every now and again.

how was your test? Can you also tell me if you had other symptoms besides the red throat? I feel fairly similar to what you had only that i have a few more things going on...

Ok kool, i was worried that its a sign for hiv....Man! im so nervous at the moment i took an 8 week test for hiv and the results should be available on monday.The wait is tearing away at me.

No  you should not be worried.  Cold sores can pop up due to stress and it is not unlikely all at that you would have more than one.

Ok!! i just got rid of a cold sore on my lip which i had for about 4 days and now ive got another one popping up on the corner of my bottom lip.should i be worried?ive never had 2 cold sores one after the other.

Thanx for the clarification.As it stands right now i only have the sore throat with an occasional burning of the scalp sensation.Hopefully my results will be negative.

All together is the way ARS is presented in the literature, not back to back.  It is a combination of different symptoms that make up the definition of ARS.  I'm not saying that it would be unlikely to have a sore throat, then a rash after the sore throat went away, but it is unlikely to be related at all to ARS.  People get sore throats then rashes all the time.  It doesn't mean anything.

Would you say if you had a symptom like a sore throat for two weeks , It would be unlikely to get a rash or something when that symptom was gone . All together not back to back ?

You are right, a sore throat can be a symptom of ARS, however, it is also a symptom of a hundred other things, all thousands of times more common than HIV.  Yes, I am saying that typically, the symptoms appear together.  That is why it is called acute retroviral SYNDROME.  A syndrome is defined as the association of SEVERAL clinically recognizable features.  You can't have an association with just one symptom like sore throat now can you?  So, yes, ARS symptoms can be expected to appear together, that is how they were first recognized.

thanx for the re-assuarance.. but im sure i read that a sore throat could be a symptom of ars.Also when the symptoms come are you saying that they would appear together i.e. sore throat,fever,enlarged lymph nodes e.t.c

Your risk was virtually non-existent.  A sore throat is not indicative of ARS, and when people get ARS, it is usually a combination of symptoms.  Relax, you had protected sex.

Thanx Chris 4 a quick reply,if someone was to get ars generally speaking would they get a few symptoms or would they get all of them
