Does soap kill HIV?

Last week i had a protected sex (with condom) with a prostitute. However, when showering, she cleaned her vagina with soap (Dettol soap) then she helped clean my penis with extra new soap.

Actually the time between she clean her vagina and helped clean my penis was only about 10 sec. in such a short period, will i get a bigger chance? will i get infection of HIV, how big is the chance? and I have read  other comments from other posts, saying HIV cannot reproduce outside Host. is that only HIV can transmitted while your penis is inserted (under sexual way) ? i am very concernedthankyou

Welcome to the forum.

Responding to the question in the title:  Yes, soap kills HIV.  Instantaneously.

You had accurate replies on the community forum.  Heterosexually transmitted HIV is rare in Australia, and relatively few female sex workers are infected.  But even if your partner were the rare exception, you had entirely safe sex.  Even without the soap cleaning, you were not at risk for HIV.

And yes, HIV is transmitted only when the penis is in the vagina.

You don't need HIV testing on account of this exposure.  However, everyone who is sexually active outside a mutually monogamous relationship should be tested for HIV and STDs from time to time, like once a year.  If you haven't been tested recently, this might be a good time, when it's on your mind.  But not because of this particular event.  A great place for personal evaluation and STD/HIV testing would be year local sexual health centre.  Australia's nationally funded SHCs are probably the world's very best STD/HIV prevention clinics.

In summary, no worries!  HHH, MD

Friend please moveon...you were never at risk. Now even a minor itch which would normally go unnoticed or a rash or a minor pain or a little temperature up or down would beof concern because you are actually concious about it now. I have been there wasted almost 4 months testing and re testing..feeling my body for symptoms.Going pshyco about it. Finally i let it go and all symptoms started to vanish. If by chance you are infected trust me everybody in the world would have been infected and died of AIDS.

They cannot possibly be HIV symptoms, since you could not have been infected.  You undboutedly have a minor cold or something.  And stop washing your hands so much!!!

This thread is truly over -- further questions will be deleted without reply.  And please  don't star a new thread on this topic -- it would also be deleted, without refund of the posting fee.

STDs also cannot be transmitted by the exposure you describe and are killed by soap.  So is HIV.  And as I said, even if there were no soap and you had not even washed, you were not at risk

You came here for reassurance based on science.  I gave it.  Accept it or not, I don't care, but don't argue about it.  This isn't a debate.

This thread is over.
