unprotected for 30 seconds

Doctor(s) - first off, thank you for all you do on this forum. It is one of the only places to get reliable information. My question:

Last night I was with a new partner, and I inserted my unprotected penis into her for about 30 seconds. I did not finish. I came to my senses (was kind of drunk) put on a condom and then we continued having sex.

Do you think this act warrants testing? I spoke to her afterwards, and she says she got tested in July after breaking up with her boyfriend and has not had sex since. But my mind is churning with possibilities (what if her ex-boyfriend cheated, and she didn't get tested with enough time for it to show, etc).

Do you think I need to worry about this? I don't want to be anxious over this for 6 weeks before I can have a reliable test. Thanks again.

Thanks.

I do not think you need further testing.   EWH

Hello Doc

Can you please tell if the chances of getting HIV from a possible newly infected person higher (the person tested negative but is in "window period" so not sure if the person is clean or not)?

Thanks

So then you would say testing is unwarranted for me?

Unprotected sex is unprotected sex.  At the same time, there is possibly a time dimension to the risk for acquiring infection. The odds of getting infection from a single, average unprotected vaginal exposure are less than 1 in 1000 and your odds are likely lower than that, if she had HIV which I find very unlikely, both on a statistical basis as well as on the basis of what she told you.

I would not worry and would concentrate on getting your condom on earlier in the future.  Good luck.  EWH
