For legal reasons, let's say this was a totally theoretical situation.
I was recently at work and two shady characters showed up. One of them tried to avoid camera range and the other acted as a look-out. The one stalked me until I was off of work and then when I got off work proceeded to harass me, and after talking to him...when I turned around to leave he offered his hand aparently apoligetic (in a strange angle) and when I shook it (cautiously) something poked my hand. I immediately ran back to wash my hand with disinfectant and I tried to squeeze it to check for any blood (which I did not see). After, I tried to look around and left through the back... he was looking for me around the parking lot. I confronted him and then asked him what he poked me with, he proceeded to ignore the situation. When I got home, I poked my hand with the nearest needle just to be sure he didn't try to stick me. It felt exactly like the poke that I experienced (only I drew blood by poking myself). I then proceeded to look at the camera feed - reported the incident to the police, and went to the local clinic. They said I couldn't do anything but wait on HIV test results but I then went to another hospital ~50 hours after the incident and they gave me a nPeP.
I do not know the guy that poked me what he poked me with but I assume the worst and assuming the worst (including a high viral load, small bore needle - the possibility of this percuteous needle-stick terrifies me). I know my odds are about .3 (assuming the worst) and that normally my odds are .004, but I just want some piece of mind in someone letting me know their opinion of the situation and what I should do. The nPeP has some really nasty side effects including muscle aches headache and tingling (all of which are normal).
So, to break it down, I would someone to do me a great service and favor in letting me know my odds, with the nPeP of contracting HIV and what timeframe and/or test would be the most effective in determining my status PCR or otherwise. Also, some information on the PCR and its effectiveness would be a great help.
I'm not asking anyone to decide for me, I just really want the facts for this situation... Thank you very, very much.
