Npep

Hi Doc/Expert
had sex with lady of unknown status, condom broke and i withdrew immediately and used a new condom. Went to see a my doctor just after 72 hrs, no more than 78 though, did not find him he was on vacation, instead there was a stand in doctor who i didnt know he prescribed Npep after 72 hrs ( Combivir 2x daily and Stocrin) He said just to be on the safe side. During the course of Npep my doctor came back and i went to see him, he was off the opinion that Npep should not have been prescribed as according to him this was low risk exposure for HIV and and advised me to stop the drugs and he gave levafloxin instead because he believed it was easy to catch other std's so this would clear any of them if i did catch them. I however chose to continue with the drugs and continued to the last day. The question i have is whether Npep would worked if i did catch the virus in the brief exposure. My doctor says he does not recommend ant further testing and that i must just put it behind me (not the one who prescribed Npep). I am from South Africa and we are approaching/ in the winter season. If i get a flu or cold should i be worried that it could be ARS. Or should i stick to what my doctor said to me and treat what ever that may come as not related to HIV.

Looking forward to your response

the guidelines state that 3 months after your last dose of nPEP will produce a conclusive result.

it is usually reserved for those who had a KNOWN risk.

the only way to know your status is by testing...not guessing

Sorry to to bother you but do you agree that Npep should not have been prescribed in the first place, that it should have been discontinued, and whether Npep will still work after coupler hours from the 72 hour deadline

Have a test 3 months after you finished the medication for a conclusive result.
