Hello,
Last week, I had unprotected oral sex with a sex worker. I'm male and I was the receiver. After the event, I learned that she has gum disease and it bleeds frequently. I don't know whether it was bleeding or not during the event. What is the risk of HIV transmission?
Thanks.
below is a quote from dr hook on the expert forum:
Neither of us on this site have ever seen or reading the medical literature of a convincing instance in which HIV was passed by oral sex. This includes by all of the people performing oral sex who had gum disease, cuts in their mouths, etc. and, conversely people who are receiving oral sex who have cuts on their genitalia. The reasons for this are multiple and include that the amount of HIV present in the mouth are lower than in genital secretions and that oral secretions contain many enzymes and high concentrations of antibodies which are antagonistic to HIV.
