No need for apologies- welcome to our Forum. Answering questions is what we are here for.
From the sound of things, your partner did not penetrate you and that is really the central issue here. If he did, there is some, slight risk (no single exposure is high risk- even if he had HIV and did penetrate your, your risk would still be no higher than 1%) and testing, not only for HIV at an appropriate time but also for far more common STIs such as gonorrhea and chlamydial infection is warranted.
Since it is not mentioned in your question, I am glad that you also asked him if he had been tested for HIV and STIs recently. That he is in a medical profession does not absolve him from taking risks and potentially being infected.
If there is any doubt in your mind as to whether penetration occurred (my sense is that it did not), then testing, both for STIs and for HIV is easily done and is probably a reasonable idea. EWH
Despite claims by the peole who sell them, the DNA tests are not recommended for HIV diagnosis. While a 16 day result would be strong evidence that you were not infected, no one know precisely how what proportion of cases would be detected at 14 (or 16) days. In contrast. most experts agree that the combination of a negative DNA test AND A negative antobody test are conclusive at 28 days, just as is a combined HIV p24 antigen/HIV antibody test. EWH
Sorry 16 days is what I meant to say
Thank you for doc. I am also thinking about taking a dna pcr test at after days from the encounter. It's hard for me to think straight. I am under so much anxiety and stress from this. I'm terrified. I can't get through my day cause Its on my mind 24/7. Do you think this test would be reliable at this point? I'm trying to relax just its really hard for me to.
