General Question....

Dr. Hunter Handsfield,

I posted like 2 months ago several questions about my exposure. You told me that I have nothing to worry about. I went 4 times to my doctor cause I wanted to be checked for all kind of STD, he always says that Im clear... I didnt have any kind of lymp node, no fever. However on tuesday, I saw like big red pimple in the inner part of my stomach which was already popped out,  It means that i couldnt see what it had inside  if it was blood or puss. it is dissapearing little by little but now its not red it's more like purple almost black and in the middle has a hole. Sorry for my english, id like to explain you with more details, im tryin to do my best. After that on thursday, i started to feel little pain in my throat, i cant swallow saliva normally. I read that it could be by anxiety and honestly i think it is cause it was almost immediately after the incident of the pimple in my stomach. My throat now is kind reddish when i see it, i have a certain disconfort but its not that painful.

Tomorrow, ill go to my doctor again to see what he will say however i wanted to ask you first because I read about your knowledge in STD themes. With all sincerity id like you to respond me what you think bout my these symptoms that i have, cause i dont know what kind of std i coud catch, I read that could be herpes or hiv. These symptoms appear in the 9th week after exposure. I read that ars symptoms general appear in the 2nd or 3rd week, but i just want to be sure bout that. Also i want to mention that i didnt have any outbreaks like genital sores. I had itchy skin rash but it was more like insect bites because i play soccer. In general, id like to know if it sound like any kind of std doctor.

I will be waiting your respond and since now i really appreciate your help

There is no meaningful difference between 1 in 2000 and 1 in 1000. Both are in the proper range.

No, if you had a sore throat due to HIV it would have occurred far earlier.

Take care.  EWH

Thanks Dr Hook,  i just wanna be sure about that, however i read lots lots of posts before responded by you and Dr Handsfield... and i have 2 questions for you... why do you always say that the vaginal transmission (without protection) is 1/1000 and Dr Hunter Handsfield say that 1/2000? It's just a doubt.

Also, is it possible that a sore throat coud appear like in the 9th week as a symptom? I know it could be for my anxiety but after that lump in my skin i was concerned AGAIN (thanks for your response now i'm relieved), I know Herpes and HIV generate sore throat but I dont know when does it appear just like an approximation? I got a mild sore throat, for 4 days, i was able to eat normally but there was a disconfort.

I really appreciate your help and honestly I knew that you shared this forum with Dr. Handsfield who I really respect cause I read many of his researches.

Thanks

Dr. Handsfield and I share the forum.  You got me.  FYI, the reason we share the forum is because we have worked together for nearly 30 years and while our verbiage styles vary, we have never disagreed on management strategies or advice to clients.

Your concerns about STD are unrealistic.  The lesion you describe, in terms of location and time course is most likely to be a simple, non-STD skin infection called folliculitis or, lathough less likely, an insect bite.  Since you have had this before, I suspect you know that folliculitis occurs when the pores in your skin get plugged.  This allows that normal bacteria that are present on just about every-one's skin to grow and cause what is essentially a pimple.  Some of these just appear as red bumps which may or may not be  tender while others go on to actually form pimples. In some instances, if you look closely you can see a hair coming out of, or nearby the bump- this too is typical of folliculitis).

The time course that this has appeared, 9 weeks following your exposure indicates that this is not an STD or in any way related to your exposure back in August.  I hope this comment helps. EWH
