You're ALL over-reacting.
HIV-related ARS fever is not 'low grade' and doesn't come and go. It is usually very high and intense... think "Jacob's Ladder" (Tim Robbins character has a very high fever, is delirious, and is treated with an ice bath), not, "hmm, maybe I should turn down the thermostat." This high fever is just the same as you can get with ANY serious viral infection, including the flu.
None of the ARS symptoms occur ine a vacuum, either. They're all due to the high viral load that occurs when HIV is multiplying rapidly during early infection and before the body has mounted a sufficient antibody response.
Most people (~90%) experience fever. With that comes lymphadenopathy and SERIOUS fatigue, of the "I can't get out of bed" variety. It's not the same fatigue most of us feel in the afternoon when our blood sugar is low. Many people also experience rash.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY down the list is diarrhea. And it's more of a bi-product of the stress on the body. If it's your only symptom, it is NOT indicative of HIV-related ARS. In fact, my guess is that MOST (90+%) of people with TRUE HIV-related ARS would be too wiped out to be posting on a web forum.
But the perceived intensity of symptoms will differ person-to-person, and they look exactly like other viral illnesses, so the only way to know for sure is to TEST. Period.
Teak, any idea on what was said in this thread about low-grade fever and on and off hot body? Like some, I've been 99.5 and below lately but my skin feels extremely warm like it's burning up. Any correlation?
Thanks!
I think im going to cry!! My skin gets very hot too but my temp doesn't go above 99.5!!!
Wow. Your comment made me relax a bit. I am in the same boat as you. My fever happened during the afternoon and it went away in hours. But I felt chill (that's how I know I had fever). HOHO
Do you feel very hot when you got a low-grade fever? I got low-grade fever every now and then too (37-37.4) usually only during the afternoon/evening hours. I have heard its just normal temperature fluctuation that everyone will experience during the day. But my skin sometimes feel very hot too, it has persisted for a month, then went away for few weeks, and re-occurs again today. I took my temp again its 37 now.
Honestly, I think I have contracted the virus even though many say I am Low-Risk. I've started having terrible fatigure and diarrhea. I wish I could get tested but I'm still a little away from a conclusive test. The only thing that gives me hope are the comments made to me in another thread but whenever I get some good news, I instantly feel bad 10 minutes later because of my terrible diarrhea.
Oh Well.
All I can say is please get tested immediately. If you in fact are HIV positive, it is better to know than be in the dark. If you are not, then there is no sense in agonozing over something you have no need to.
I agonized for months over this problem, to the point where I started losing weight, which in turn made me think I was losing weight due to HIV. It turns out I was HIV negative, and had no reason to worry.
Please get tested and stay safe!
I have fever (low grade, 37-37.5C) on and off for a week or two till now. Everytime it last about 3-5 hrs, and it occured every 2 or three days (5 times up to now).
People say the ARS fever will be high grade with nightsweats and rash. I don't know. HOHO Hope I will be fine. Bless you!
