hiv from saliva into the eye

I was talking to a friend of mine who is hiv positive. While talking , he spat in my eye and I cud feel droplets in my eye due to his spit. Considering his hiv status, can I get hiv from this incident. I spoke to my family doctor and he says hiv is transmitted by saliva

Multiple members have explained that HIV is not transmitted by saliva.  HIV, in adults, is transmitted by having unprotected, penetrative vaginal or anal sex, or by sharing IV drug works with other IV drug users.  That is it.

Saliva is not infectious and breaks down the virus rendering it unable to infect

Because it doesnot survive outside the host. Its transmitted by unprotected insertive vaginal/anal sex. sharing iv drug needles and mother to child.

Thanx. I heard that hiv is transferred via bodily fluids. The guy I was talking to is positively hiv positive. How is saliva different to blood, they r both body fluids
