Hi TEAK, can you please explain something to me?

The other day you told me that an HIV-1 test would pick up HIV-2 antibodies (if i had the virus).  I tried looking for facts about this but couldn't really find much.  Where did you learn that HIV-1 tests would detect HIV-2? I'm not second guessing you I really am just curious. Thanks, I hope you can answer.

HIV-1 test picks up HIV-2 antibodies most of the time, that's right.

It doesn't have the same genetic make up, but it's similar.
HIV-1 and HIV-2 are cousins.
Like I said, a HIV-1 test picks up HIV-2 antibodies most of the time, like 80% or something like that.

Ok thank you because I wasn't sure since its a different virus but I read in a book about it that it has the same genetic make-up so I would think it would possibly pick up HIV-2 also.  Could this be a correct assumption? Thank you
