Risk of exposure

Hi there.

I just learned I may have been exposed to HIV through unprotected anal sex, and I need to know my risk factors.  Three nights ago I had sex with a HIV+ partner who neglected to tell me his status.  I was the insertive partner (i.e. the Top), and had no blood exchange or rough sex.  I also withdrew before orgasming.  I was exposed to his semen, though only on my skin and had no open cuts or sores.

Last night my partner confessed that he's been HIV+ for about a year, though his viral load is undetectable and he is otherwise healthy.  According to my own research, M-to-M anal sex for the insertive partner poses only about a .03% chance of transmission without a condom.  I'm wondering if anyone here can also offer any facts or advice.

As soon as I learned about my partner's status, I began taking 500mg of acyclovir in hopes that it could block any serioconversion post exposure.  I've read conflicting data on the efficacy of acyclovir in combating HIV, so again, I'm hoping someone here can help clear things up for me.

I know I'm beyond the window for formal PEP, and obviously I will have to get periodic tests over the next few months.  Ironically, my most recent test was the same day of my encounter, and I did test negative.

I've not begun to panic yet, but if anyone here can offer advice or counseling regarding my situation, including the chances I contracted HIV, I would most appreciate it.

I'm sorry, what do you mean by DUO testing?

Only advice we can give is an antibody test at 3 months is conclusive, a DUO test at 28 days is a good indication. We can not begin to discuss medication and we do not give numbers or %'s.

Use condoms.
