ARS Possible Symptoms and Timing

Thank you for this site and it really has been my only uplifitng thing as I explore symptoms of ARS like I know I shouldnt.  But when you think your life might change dramatically there is no way to stop thinking about it.

I had a potential low risk exposure 22 days ago.  On day 9 I did experience some muscle weakness and fatigue but no other symptoms of any kind.  I was sick prior to the exposure somewhat and I also got really ran down/stressed over this and attended a function at a State Fair 2 days prior to feeling bad with about 200,000 people.  I did somewhat dismiss the possible symptom as a touch of the flu or something to that effect until now.

Last Wednesday 18 days after I recognized a faint rash on my collar area that looks like small acne pimples.  Still not being over worried I dismissed it.  Today,,,,actually tonight I noticed that I see a rash under both my eyes as well which is 22 days after the exposure.

My question is 1.  without fever, lymph node swelling, etc, and with symptoms being spread out what do you think.

2.  Do you expect to see ARS symptoms occur at the same time like in a 24 hr period or so like I read elsewhere.

3. Is it possible to have some symptoms then others 10-days later and most importantly does and ARS rash spread over a period of days (4-5 in my case) or does it using come on quicker.  What puzzles me is I started feeling good over the least 3-4 days then I get this rash qwith no other symptoms and start freaking all over again.

Again thanks again for your help.

I appreciate all you do so much you dont even know.  I have a completely new found appreciation for my health that I took for granted as well as a respect for those living with HIV.  I have the means to help and would like to know if you have a foundation I could contribute to or do you have a recommendation for a foundation or cause I can support.

I surely appreciate everything and beleive this could be the very first night I sleep in 26 days.

For those reading this.  I wish everyone the best and I hope we all learn from the positions we put ourselves in.  I know I have and will become a better person for this life lesson.

As I said, if your symptoms had been due to HIV your test today would have been postive.  You have little to worry about. EWH

On your advise I had a oraquick done today and it was negative.  To be conclusive I will test again at 3 months too.  My question is how realiable is this result given my potential sysmptoms at 4 weeks.  Thank you so much.

Welcome to our Forum.  You need to look for other, far more likely explanations for your symptoms than to allow yourself to be worried that you might have ARS.  You say little about your exposure which you characterize as "low risk" and which I will, therefore accept as being at least low risk.

I suspect you have also noted that we state repeatedly that the symptoms of the ARS are TOTALLY non-specific and when people experience "ARS symptoms" they are much more likely to have something else, usually some other, more typical virus infection.  When this has been studied in the US, less than 1% of persons seeking medical care for "ARS symptoms" are found to have HIV, the remainder having symptoms due to other processes. In contrast, over a given year, there is almost no one who has not had a viral illness,  a rash, night sweats or some combination of these problems (sometimes on multiple occasions).  For a person to try to judge their HIV risk based on "ARS symptoms" is a waste of time.

As for your symptoms, they don't even make the criteria for "ARS symptoms" as the symptoms of ARS all come on at about the same time, not piecemeal as yours have and when they do people feel really miserable.  You lack many of the symptoms associated with the ARS and your rash is not the total body rash of ARS.

I urge you not to worry.  If you must, you can get a test this week, Had your symptoms been due to ARS your test would be positive.  I am confident however that your symptoms are not the ARS.

Take care. EWH
