Can I get HIV or hepatitis this way??

I work as an officer in a homeless shelter. I had to respond to a fight that was taking place in the elevator. When I responded, a co worker to e to step back because the guy is bleeding (he got punched in the face). I did. All of a sudden, i felt something drop on my lip. The first this i did was check my hair to see if it was wet because my hair was coming out of its pony tail when i was running. Then, I wiped my mouth. When I looked at my fingers, it didn't appear to have blood on it. It just looked wet and didn't appear to be red. If this man was hiv positive or had hepatitis, would i be at risk due to the above circumstances? My lips are dry and I lick my lips a lot. I might have licked my lips after this happened. Serious answers only. My job is a very risky job and I am constantly in fear.

It's 2009 and ignorance does offend me. You were never at risk.

Can you please explain why as I am obviously not knowledgeable to this subject. The reason why I am scared is because I am unsure if his blood got on my lip. I think that is a valid reason to be scared. For the record, I love my job. It is just that this job exposes you to a lot of diseases and risks due to the clientel that we deal with everyday (Homeless men). This is why I came here to get help in this area. For some reason, I get the feeling that you were somehow upset or perhaps offended with my question. In no way did I mean to be and if you were and I deeply apologize.

If your job is so risky that you are always in an anxiety mode then find another job. You did not have a risk of contracting HIV.
