Hi,

The doctor says a rapid test is conclusive.  Trinity Biotech has a Uni-Gold test that the HIV counselor says is completely reliable at 5 1/2 weeks.  As for me, I had a low risk encounter but am freaking out.  I went to an HIV specialist and he did a quantitative Elisa at 15 days as well as an Ultrasensitive RNA Viral test to rule HIV out.  I am waiting on the RNA; doc says if viral loads are undetected than I am clear.

The antiviral sounds like the DNA by PCR - a test that is looking for the HIV DNA not the antibodies that take weeks - months to appear.  The quantative Elisa is looking for antibodies which is probably to early at this stage.  What is is the first test you mentioned?
