Thrush at 28 days

At a bachelor party on 6/29 I gave one of the dancers cunnulingus for 10 seconds. I had a cancre sore on the roof of my mouth which was healed by 7/1. I later had protected vaginal and she gave me protected oral with a condom. I started going online and getting paranoid so I called a friend who is a PA and told him what happened as I was paranoid I could give my wife a disease. He told me the main concerns were chlamidia and gonnorhea of the mouth, and possibly hiv and herpes. He prescribed me some antibiotics in case I got gonnorhea or clamidia. It was two seperate medications, I don't recall the names but it was 2 pills on one for 1 day and 2 pills of the other for 4 or 5 days. I took the medication and was done with it by 7/6. I then started getting super anxious and started getting dry mouth and loose stools and mild night sweats. I got really stressed out and had very dry mouth and thought it was the beginning of ARS. I started not being able to sleep or eat. I went to my PCP and he said I had no risk but he tested me with an EIA antibody hiv 1 and 2 at 24.5 days and it was all negative. The next day I woke up with small white patches in my gum line this was 7/27 exactly 4 weeks after the party. i went to my dentist and he said it was thrush and prescribed me some lozenges that you take 5 times a day for 2 weeks. It went away in 2-3 days but i took them for 5 days. It never came back. I started on lexapro to calm my anxiety since I haven't been sleeping or eating well. i literraly didnt sleep at all for the two days while i waited for the results. So I had thrush, some night sweats (very light), some headaches (minor), some loose stools and some pin feelings in feet and sometimes hands. I never had a flu, sore throat or a rash which are primary symptoms but what scares me to death is the thrush. I have always been healthy and rarely get sick. Can thrush show up 3 weeks after antibiotics? How concerned should I be? I am in So California, dancer was Hispanic.

Of course I'm not surprised -- but congratulations.

I went back and had an EIA 1 and 2 on 10/29, 4 months after exposure and it came back negative. I guess the oral thrush was from the antibiotics even though it was 3 weeks after I finished them. Thanks for the advice.

Welcome to the forum.  You can relax.  You weren't at risk for HIV and there is nothing in your story that makes an HIV infection likely.

As you were accurately informed on the community forum -- supported by a number of quotes from this forum -- cunnilingus is risk free in regard to HIV.  And HIV remains rare in sex workers (and undboubtedly in most bachelor party "dancers"), so it is unlikely you were even exposed.  Cunnilingus is also very low risk for all other STDs, and your PA friend was mistaken:  you didn't need all those antibiotics.  As you suggest yourself, they may be part of the problem; antibiotic treatment indeed can trigger oral yeast infection (thrush).  Three weeks is a bit late for that -- but it's still a stronger chance than HIV.  Contrary to popular belief, oral thrush commonly occurs in entirely healthy people (I had it myself once), and by itself is almost never a sign of HIV.

Finally, your negative HIV antibody test is strong evidence you weren't infected.  It isn't definitive -- but with the modern antibody tests, a negative result at 24 days is around 90% reliable.  You should have another HIV test at this time; you definitely can expect another negative result.  You don't need to wait untl the 3 month mark for a definitive result; see the thread linked below.

Feel free to return with a follow-up comment to let me know the result of a follow-up HIV test.  But I won't have any further advice before then; it's pointless to speculate when a definitive answer is so easily available.  In the meantime, I hope these comments have helped ease your fears.
