I recieved un-protected oral sex off a girl of un known HIV status from the U.K. she also rimmed my rectum. Are there any risks of HIV, would i need testing from this incident.is it a low risk or no risk. Can i put this to the back of my mind and move on?

The exposure you describe is close to zero risk and not a reason for concern.  Unless your partner was an IV drug user, it is most unlikely thatshe has HIV.  In addition, the quoted figure for HIV risk, if one has oral sex (including oral-rectal contact) with an infected partner is less than 1 in 10,000 and, in my estimation that is too high. Some experts state there is no risk at all from oral sex.  Neither of us on this site have ever seen or reading the medical literature of a convincing instance in which HIV was passed by oral sex.

No need to worry, no need for testing.  Take care.  EWH

Just a quick update. I rang my HIV testing team in my area in the UK to book my test, i told them of my risk they agreed with you and told me that there is no need to test and they would not test me for this no risk situation. thanks Dr

If you had no risk, why would you test? Even for piece of mind...no risk is no risk.

Stopping PEP will not increase or change your risk for HIV.  In my opinion, you shouldn't have started it and I would not continue it.

In addition, it is time for this thread to end. There will be no more replies.  I wish you well.  EWH

Sorry doctor, im really worried. I have started taking PEP for 3 days now. its makes me tired feel sick and not myself. I know my risk is minamal but I know the risk is so small i sort of feel the need to take it. Even my doctor at the GUM clinic said that i would not fit the catorgory for him to pescribe it. Im really confused on what to do. Do you recomend that I stop taking it and move on. Because i started to take pep if i stop would that increase my risk by more?

I have nothing more to say.  Your exposure was no risk.  Your boil does not change this isn any way.  If I were you, I would not be taking PEP. You need to move on. there will be no fiurther answers.  EWH

I am helping you over in the HIV community also, so you have myself and Dr. Hook giving you the exact same advice. Think it's time to move on.

And please don't ask the Dr to repeat himself on answers he has already given you. Re read what he has written to you already.

thanks for your advice.
Do you think that i diffiantly wont of caught it  from this episode?
You say lower zero risk, does that mean Zero or low risk?
I have a boil on my bottom that may have been oshing out a bit would that increase my risk?
How would i get infected from oral sex if saliva doesnt carry enough hiv to infect?
If a speck of blood got onto my boil could i get infected?
Do you think i should stop taking the PEP. I know my anxiety is running wild at the moment, but i think if i take this pep it would lower my risk by even more.

I would not have given you PEP is I had seen you.  Your risk for side effects from the PEP is far higher than your risk of HIV.  If you had a meaningful exposure to HIV, PEP would lower your risk of infection. In your case, trying to lower zero risk is no a meanigful pursuit.  EWH

i have a partner, would i have to wear a condom untill im tested. You say the estimation is too high, does that mean you think there is more chance of getting it. I have been given PEP by my doctor because i am so worried. will PEP reduce my risk by even more?
