Today I received a negative test 4 months after the incident.
It was taken in an Africa hospital and was a white plastic box with white window, with a control line after test (no second line for positive). Is this reliable?
Thanks Vance, I am aware of that. I am also aware my symptoms are not that bad as they would be with ARS, I was mainly looking for some anxiety relief which you provided! I will now keep busy until the end of the month and keep my fingers and toes crossed!
Don't bother with symptoms, they will only heighten your anxiety. If you get true symptoms they are presistant and will last for about 1-2 weeks. And you will have a fever that will be 101-102 and like I said it will last. But you have to remember that many things can cause ARS like symptoms. So that is why symptoms or lack of can't be used as an indication.
Ok so my 'mild' sore throat is back, even pain killers and water will not remove it. I am coming up to having one week of sore throat now. And this morning I found a cluster of little red spots on my back (maybe 5 or 6) they were raised and could be heat spots. I forgot to mention earlier that since the fever hit (if indeed it was a fever) I have had a cough in fits of around 1 hour a time, particularly whilst lying down. Temp now is 36.2-37.2 so normal, It seems if I had a fever it was only for a few hours. The sore throat is concerning me.
I understand the risk of transmisson female to male is about 1/1000 (1/2000 according to some people).
Just looking for some reassurance as I have 3 more weeks until 3 weeks and it is driving me crazy!
That will be a very good indicator.
Ok thanks, The first test I can take is 6 week antibody test as that is all that is available where I am.
I wasn,t trying to make you feel more anxious.I was just stating the facts.Take an hiv test that is used for early detection when you can. That will help settle your nerves. All the best.
Thanks, not great for my anxitey! but I guess the truth hurts.
Alcohol and sex don,t mix. They are the perfect combination for disaster and are the result of many STD transmissions including hiv.Get tested and don,t mix alcohol and sex in the future,it clouds your judgements and the ability to think rationally.Good Luck.
You'll find out if they're due to HIV after the test at 12 weeks post-exposure.
Thanks Rio, very encouraging. I will definitely get tested at 6, 8 and 12 weeks.
I am not sure if I had a fever or not as I cannot check, but I have been flush, no chills or anything so maybe it wasn't even a fever. Groin pain is still here, maybe more intense possibly a UTI?
I have also had a cough for 3-4 days, with cough fits of up to 5 -10 minutes?
You put yourself at risk and will need to test 3 months post exposure to obtain a conclusive test result.
The chance of getting HIV from a single episode of insertive vaginal sex is a lot lower than receptive vaginal sex or anal sex. The risk is actually higher on her side. To my knowledge, the majority of Thai sex workers are clean, as they continuously try to protect themselves from their clients. The fact that she asked whether or not you were clean is a good indicator that she "usually" practices safe sex.
The "symptoms" you described don't sound like ARS to me. In all cases of ARS, high fever lasting for more than a week occurs. To ease your mind, get a test at the 8th week, the result is unlikely to change at the 12th week.
