Virus HIV outside the body

Doctor, Im from Brazil, married a woman with kids. I put my self in a weird situation. I was in my friends house and I found a "**** dildo" in the room that I was slepping.  Im not gay, but for curiosity, I put the dildo in my *** for several times. after that, i became worried. I dont know the "HIV status of him", and apparentely, there is no bloodstains or semen stuck on it. The QUESTION IS: How long the hiv virus survive outside the human body  under normal conditions? In my case, I think if he used the "penis dildo" that day, was  about 15 hours before me, because we left early together and only returned later in the day. Is there any study that proves hiv virus survive more than 15 hours outside the human body, upon any surface like a dildo? Do I need a test becasue of this situation? thanks and sorry because my english is not good!

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your confidence in this forum.

This was a zero risk event with regard to HIV.  HIV dies as soon as any secretions dry out -- and even before drying, soon after coming in contact with the air.  Even if a previous dildo user had HIV, if it was not still wet with blood or body secretions, there was no transmission risk.  The only way a dildo or other sex toy might transmit HIV is by being used by an infected person and then being immediately used by another person -- and even in this circumstance, the risk would be very low.  It is probable that nobody in the world ever caught HIV from an event such as you describe, and I am confident you will not be the first.

For those reasons, you do not need testing for HIV, and if you have a regular sex partner, you can safely continue unprotected sex without fear of transmitting any infection from the dildo event.

I hope this has been helpful.  Best wishes--  HHH, MD

Your country's policy is a lot smarter than mine!  Most authorities in the US stick with 3 months, but all evidence is that 2 months (actually, it's only 1 month) is definitive.  See the thread linked below:

Good day. In our country (Brazil) the government conducts HIV Elisa test combo (antibody + protein of the virus). after two months we give a negative result as definitive, testing after 3 months only for suspected late seroconversion. this procedure is satisfactory?

thank you very much, was very enlightening. doctor, never betray my wife and I got crazy to think that by this nonsense could put my family at risk. stopping to think, period, if it existed, would be more than 20 hours due to schedules elapsed. I am convinced that all is well, thank you.
