Very Scared Please Help!!

I am a 34 old heterosexual male that had I believe (drunk and can’t totally recall) unprotected vaginal sex with a stripper 6 months ago.  Below is an outline of the symptoms that I have had over the past 6 months.

2 Weeks after I had 2 mouth ulcers appeared which last about 1 week  I will say I had gone to the dentist about a week before the ulcers came and had about 2 hours of work done, I think the ulcers may have come from there.
1 Month after I had a common cold that last about 1 week, went away without medication
11 Weeks after I had the flu that last one day, could not even leave my bed. My wife and daughter both had the flu one week before I came down with it.
13 Weeks after I had another common cold and soar throat with green flem which last about two week, it went away without medication
I have had 5 mouth ulcers over the past 6 months, always one at a time.
Last Friday I work up with a sore throat. I looked into my mouth and I could see an ulcer above my tonsils that was very red, that night I got the chills and night sweats very bad.  The next day I got up and my tonsils both white spots all over them and were red.  I went and saw the Doctor and they confirmed that I had strep throat. They put me on amoxicillin for the next 10 days I also have had night sweats for the past 6 nights.  I will also say that again I went to the Dentist two days before I came down with strep to have a temp crown that was on for 5 months removed and my perm crown installed.  The Dentist did say my gum was very red from the temp crown.

Questions

Do my symptoms sound like HIV to you?
Is it common for adults to get strep?
Have you seen cases where strep has been a sign of HIV?
Should I worry about getting Sterp Throat as an Adult?
Why do you think I have had night sweats the past 6 night?
Do you think that any of my illness could be a result of going to the Dentist, it seems to me that I always get something after going there.

Night sweats are a non-specific finding with many, many causes.  No change in my opinion or recommendations. EWH

Doc, I still continue to have night sweats, are they common in HIV postive people at 6 months?  I think that stress or alcohal many be causing my sweats.  Thanks

Thanks again for the educated information and help.  It really sounds like anxiety and stress are causing most of my issues.  Have a great weekend.

Your odds of having HIV form the single unprotected encounter you describe are mathematically less than 1 in a million.

Certainly community acquired viral respiratory track infections and/or strep could also cause night sweats. EWH

Thanks for getting back with me so quick and yes you are correct I have been watch every little move my body makes.  I will take you advice and move forward and get a test.  Do you know the odds of transmission base on my situation?  Also do you think my current cold/strep throat might be causing the night sweats?  Thanks again for your time and help.

Welcome to the Forum.  I'll try to help. As I read your post I sense an undercurrent of anxiety and perhaps guilt over the exposure that you describe.  I also not that you appear to have become very aware of the sorts of minor illness, mouth ulcers, etc that we all get with great regularity.  I hope that my answers to your questions, as well as my recommendations will help you to move forward from your concerns.

As for your questions:
1.  No, these symptoms sound NOTHING like HIV.
2.  Adults get strep throats all the time.
3.  No, strep throat is NOT an indicator of HIV.
4.  I would not worry about strep throat.  it happens form time to time and is easily taken care of.
5.  Night sweats are non-specific and be caused by lots of things including reflux/heartburn.  They are not particularly concerning for HIV.
6.  I have no idea.  You would have to ask your dentist.

My advice is to try not to worry.  As part of that and to put any lingering concerns you have about HIV, I would suggest that you get a single test for HIV at this time. I predict the test will be negative and when it is, you need to accept and believe it.  I hope my comments will help your progress. EWH
