Very concerned...what test to take?

Hello Doc,

I am a male and received unprotected oral sex from a CSW in China about 4 weeks ago. I have read through tons of posts on your website already and know that unprotected oral sex posts no risk in general. But are still very concerned because my condition is a little different. I am uncircumcised and have a small HPV wart near the base of my penis. Does it increase my infection rate? The oral sex lasted for a minute or so and covered the glans(?) area only. Should I be worried? What test(s) should I take now?

Look forward to hearing from you...

J

There are a very few cases of HIV which MAY have been obtained by performing oral sex on an infected man (fellatio).  There are no known cases of HIV due to receiving oral sex.  In persons perfroming oral sex (fellatio) on an infected partner, the risk is, at most, 1 in 10,000 and probably lower.  Bleeding gums would make no difference.

Please do not worry.  EWH

What a relief! Many many thanks! I have been in a state of depression and I hope I can recover from it soon after hearing from you!

For practical purposes, are the risks different if I am the giver or receiver as far as unprotected oral sex?

As a receiver, are my risks non-existant because there is simply not enough viruses in the female's saliva even if she was HIV+? What if she has bleeding gums, would that make a difference?

Thanks again!

Welcome to our Forum.  It is unlikely that your partner had HIV but, even if she did, there is no reason for concern.  Neither your lack of circumcision nor the wart at the base of your penis will meaningfully change your virtually non-existant risk for HIV.  there is no reason for concern and no reason for testing.  EWH
