Want to move on

Hi Dr.
I am stressing over an affair I had it lasted 4 months. Me and my husband were having a hard time and were seperated. We have now gotten things back together and wanna move on! The guy who i was with says he's negative but I didn't trust that so I went and got tested at 5months, 6 months and now 8months all negative. My issue is I had a family practice doc that say that my test isn't completely accurate until 12 months!!! Now i'm pulling my hair out because I have had unprotected sex with my husband and he is in the military and is about to have his yearly physical that includes an HIV test. Should I be worried about his test and should I retest at 12months?

Her at MedHelp we make every effort not to get between our clients and their health care professional however, in this instance I must disagree with your doctor.  It is very clear with currently available tests that results of HIV testing should be considered definitive at 3 months following the last exposure.   Your doctor is being overly conservative.  You do not have HIV and have not placed your husband at risk.  Please don't worry.  No need for further testing.  EWH
